- Progynona is the most active of the naturally occurring oestrogens. It is primarily used as menopausal Hormonal replacement Therapy, where synthetic derivatives such as ethinylestradiol and mestranol have a major role as components of combined oral contraceptives. Estradiol may also be used as replacement therapy for female hypogonadism or primary ovarian failure.
